IT'S OFFICIAL - THEY WIN!
Congratulations to Ashland University cross country coaches Nick Cordes and Leigh Daniel, the winning couple in the NBC Today Show’s “Today Throws a Wedding.” The couple will receive an all-expenses paid wedding - the bride's dress, bridesmaids' dresses, tux, rings, and dream destination honeymoon that will be chosen by America. The outcome was based on America's online vote and over the course of three weeks, Nick and Leigh received over 66,000 votes from viewers. Nick and Leigh say a “big thank you” to all who voted – helping them win this competition!
AU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
This month, the AU Alumni Association is pleased to welcome the 719 members of the Class of 2009 who graduated on May 9. Members of the Alumni Board were there to welcome each graduate to the Alumni Association with a handshake and a gift.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI DIRECTOR This week, Ashland University is welcoming hundreds of freshman for Orientation. More than 20% of the Freshman Class is comprised of legacy students! There’s something special when generations of family members share the common bond of AU spirit. If you have not signed up your children for our legacy program, please do so! We love to celebrate your child from the day they are born and hopefully one day they will consider joining us at Ashland University.
More than 25 years ago, the Alumni Board began the tradition of the Purple Eagle Silent Auction during Homecoming weekend. The purpose of the auction is to raise money for endowed scholarships that are given to children of alumni. To date, this group has raised more than $215,000 for legacy endowed scholarships. My kids, Luke and Jack, love to come to campus, just with the hope to get a glimpse of Tuffy, and to be honest, they love the grilled cheese sandwiches made at the Eagle’s Nest. (So do I!) Luke was able to go to Day Camp this summer at the Recreation Center. He loved swimming, climbing the rock wall and meeting the college counselors! The Recreation Center is offering "Little Eagle Day", an afternoon of activities for children ages 4-12 on the Saturday of Homecoming Weekend, October 10th. Mark your calendars! Join us as we celebrate our Ashland experience, the University today and our future. Homecoming is a time to celebrate the "old times" and to reconnect with friends. 6/26/2009: Rally for Ashland University Coaches Canceled By NBC
An NBC representative has informed Ashland University officials that an NBC television crew will not be able to attend a July 1 rally for the Ashland University track and field coaches Leigh Daniel and Nick Cordes, who are one of the two couples still in the running on the NBC Today Show’s, “Today Throws a Wedding.” Because of that decision, the University has decided to cancel the community rally.

Ashland University track and field coaches Leigh Daniel and Nick Cordes are one of two couples still in the running on the NBC Today Show’s, “Today Throws a Wedding.” In support of the couple, Ashland University is hosting a rally on Wednesday, July 1, from 7 to 9 a.m., at Community Stadium. The rally is open to the public and Ashland fans and friends are encouraged to come to what promises to be a fun, early-morning party.

Ashland University cross country coaches Nick Cordes and Leigh Daniel, who were among four couples competing for a nationally televised wedding through NBC’s "The Today Show," have advanced to the final round of the competition.
6/22/2009: Betty Whitted Passes Away
Betty Whitted, longtime employee of Ashland University, passed away last week. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 24, at the Wappner Funeral Home, 308 Claremont Ave. The Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the First Presbyterian Church, 122 W. Third St., with a reception to follow. Burial will take place later in the afternoon in Lorain.
